Health minister lays foundation stone for new hospital building

Udupi, Aug 24, 2012 : Arvind Limbavalli, health and family welfare minister, laid the foundation stone for the new building of the district government hospital at 10:30 a.m. on August 23, Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that each district hospital must have at least 250 beds, adding that Udupi district hospital has only 150 – 200 beds, a situation that needs to be improved.

He also told visitors that he visited a few patients suspected to be suffering from rat fever, on August 22, Wednesday. He stated that only one of them had tested positive for rat fever.

Expressing concern over the rise of rat fever in the district, he said that the district administration is taking strong measures to bring the situation under control. Government officers are visiting houses, taking blood samples, providing treatment, and creating awareness, he added.

He said that as many as 60 cases of rat fever have been reported in Udupi and DK. Urging people not to ignore fever, he said that, if they notice a rise in body temperature, they must immediately visit the hospital and get a complete check-up.

He also said that the first thing he will do after getting back to Bangalore is get funds sanctioned for the construction of the district hospital building.

The minister also inaugurated the free ambulance service for Prasad Nethralaya. He was accompanied by MLA Raghupathi Bhat, CMC President Kiran Kumar, DC M. T. Reju, ZP CEO Prabhakar Sharma, TP President Devdas Hebbar, and Ravindra Nayak.
