HPCL provides Rs 17 lakh ex-gratia relief to families of victims of Perne tanker tragedy

Mangalore, May2, 2013 :  Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta, has in a press communiqué  informed that  the HPCL has extended a total amount of Rs 17 lakh as an intermediate ex-gratia  of Rs 1.5 lakh each to the next of kin of deceased  in the Perne LPG tanker tragedy that took place on April 9. It has also provided Rs 50,000  as compensation to the injured.

The tragedy had left 10 dead and one injured. The DC very soon after the tragedy, at a meeting of various officials as well as representatives of oil companies, had taken the company concerned to task for its apathetic approach towards the victims of the tragedy.


As per the report  furnished by the Tahsildar, the total loss has been estimated at Rs 43,19,764.78 including damages to houses and shops of 12 persons and also damage  to  seven vehicles.The release also stated that the government has paid a total sum of Rs 10 lakh at the rate of Rs one lakh each.


The release also stated that at another meeting held on April 22  the HPCL was asked to provide a rescue vehicle with complete safety equipment at Gundya.
