Bhatkal, Jun 11, June 2012 : Fifteen people sustained injuries when two groups got into a fight on June 9, Saturday. One of them is in a serious condition.
The fight was between two groups belonging to Moger and Namadhiri communities over the construction of Basti Road in Matadahitlu in Murudeshwar. The police have arrested 11 of them.
The two groups had earlier come to an agreement that they would give up part of their land for the construction of the Basti Road, but later the Namadhiri community accused the Moger community of failing to keep their promise and building a compound wall that prevented the construction of the road. On June 7, some unidentified people demolished the compound wall. When the Moger community tried to rebuild it, they were stopped by members of the Namadhiri community.
The groups got into an argument, which led to a physical fight, which included pelting of stones. Many were injured and are now taking treatment is several hospitals across Murudheshwar and Bhatkal.
The police have now beefed up security in the area, and the situation is now under control. Both communities have lodged police complaints against each other.
