Bantwal, July 1, 2012: A group of people stopped a vehicle that was allegedly illegally transporting cattle on June 20, Saturday. The two parties then got into a fierce quarrel, which resulted in a fist fight till the police arrived and used their lathis.
A group of men on motorbikes stopped a tempo that was allegedly illegally transporting cattle on the evening of Saturday. Reportedly, the tempo hit one of the bikes, because of which the group attacked the tempo driver. Soon another group arrived on the spot and the fight turned ugly and took on a communal nature. Some of them began throwing stones and soda bottles around, damaging other vehicles and shops in the vicinity.


When the situation turned bad, a number of shops pulled down their shutters. The mob began stopping vehicles, assaulted drivers, and damaged the vehicles.
Soon, police teams arrived from Puttur, Mangalore, and Vittal to control the mob. The police had to use lathis to disperse the mob.
Six people were injured and 10 vehicles were damaged in the fight.
SP Abhishek Goyal and Puttur ASP Anucheth visited the place. Shekhar, inspector of Bantwal Police Station; Mahesh Prasad, inspector; and other policemen are now handling the situation in Kalladka. Security has been beefed up to prevent more violence.
