Bangalore, Sep 19, 2013 : Abhayachandra Jain, State Minister for Youth Affairs and Fisheries who represents Moodbidri constituency, has written to TB Jayachandra, State Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs seeking a CBI probe into the Siddantha Darshana Mandir burglary case in Moodbidri wherein antique idols worth several crores of rupees have been stolen.
There is information that Jayachandra has already written to Home Minister KJ George and a decision regarding entrusting the case to the CBI is likely to be taken soon.
Speaking to reporters here, Jain has said though the Chattisgarh government was not co-operating with the probe, the DGP of Chattisgarh has suggested a CBI probe. Jain said an appeal has been made in this regard to the Chief Minister too and the Cabinet would take an appropriate decision.
The theft was reported on July 12 night. Police have arrested the prime accused Ghanashyam Das alias Santosh Das and have recovered three stolen idols while the remaining had been reportedly sold to a jeweler in Chattisgarh. Even the wife and father-in-law of Santosh Das and a jeweler of Chattisgarh have been arrested in connection with the case.
