Government to focus on maintaining state unity – District-in-charge Minister C. T. Ravi

Mangalore, Nov 1, 2012: District-in-charge Minister C. T. Ravi declared that the state government is doing its best to maintain the unity of the state. 


Delivering the Karnataka Rajyotsava address on Nehru Maidan today, C.T. Ravi said that the state government does not want separatism to gain prominence in Karnataka. He said that the government has appointed a separate committee to make sure that the recommendations of Dr. Nanjundappa are implemented for the development of North Karnataka. Besides, the government has earmarked crores of rupees for the same. He also said that the government constructed the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi and conducted special sessions there to convey the message of unity.

Further, he said that the government is taking all the required steps to promote Kannada by providing reservations for Kannada speakers, 100% use of Kannada in administrative issues, pensions for Kannada artists, development of Kannada universities, and grants for the Kannada Sahitya Parishad, to mention a few. 


The government has granted crores of rupees for the activities of Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelan, Taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan, and Zilla Kannada Sahitya Sammelan. 


The Rajyothsava Awards were conferred on 19 achievers, including Dr. Ronald Fernandes of Deccan Herald, K. T. Gatty of Ujire, and Shantharam Acharya Kalladka. 


The other award winners were Prof S Prabhakar Ujire (Education), Puttur Shreedhar Bhandary (Yakshagana), Prakash Karanth Narikombu, Shreedhar Bhat and Mahabala Poojary Kadambodi (Social service), Rohini Subbarathnam Kanchana (Music), Jeevan Ram Sullia (Theatre), Lokaiah Sere (Folk), Edward Taccode (Agriculture), Mohan Sonangeri (Painting), Sharada Mani Shekar (Dance), Ashok Vardhan (Environment), Ramakrishna Ashram (Organization), Gayathri Navada (Research) and Kodipady Narayana Joisa (Religion and Culture). Sahana Poojary and Sadananda Prabhu were chosen for special awards for their contribution in sports.


Mr. Ravi received the guard of honor from the NCC, police, traffic police, and others.
School children presented a colorful cultural program on the occasion.
