Mangalore, March 8, 2012 : G. A. Bawa, the retired deputy commissioner of police, was felicitated at a grand felicitation ceremony held by G. A. Bawabhinandane Saminthi on March 7 Wednesday.

A documentary titled Bawa Mattu Baduku, produced by Mangalore Media Centre, was released by Prof. K. E. Radhkrishna, the renowned educationist, on this occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Radhakrishna lauded the various virtues of Bawa and said that people like Bawa are required in larger numbers when several anti-social elements try to generate disturbances on the basis of language, caste, religion, and other issues. He also stated that Bawa’s life clearly illustrates the fact that poverty need not be an impediment to success.

The documentary was shown on this occasion.

N. Vinay Hegde, the vice chancellor of Nitte University, presided.

B. S. Kaveri, who helped Bawa get an education, was felicitated on this occasion, with Dr. Sham Bhat representing her on the occasion. Dr. Jayamala, the actress, honored Pushpavathi U. Rai, Vasanthi J. Ariga, and Mumtaz Bawa, the wife of Bawa, on this occasion.

Delivering the keynote address, journalist Ravi Belagere said that Bawa ought to have been felicitated in Bangalore as soon as he retired. He expressed his appreciation of Bawa for preventing the spread of underworld elements from Mumbai to Bangalore and said that the people of Bangalore will always remain grateful to him for this.

Responding to the felicitation, Bawa said that his fans have organized this function simply because they love him. Commenting on Belagere’s statement that he ought to be elected as the people’s representative, he said that he has no interest in politics and will continue to uphold human values all his life.

M. Sureshchandra Shetty, the president of the felicitation committee; Ajith Kumar Malady, the honorary president; Umer U. H.; B. A. Mohammed Ali, the committee member; and many others were present.
