Former MLA accuses Palemar of anti people activities

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Aug 8: The intensifying sea erosion at Ullal is proving to be a huge threat to the life and property of the local people. Speaking about the issue, former MLA Vijayakumar Shetty said that District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar has rejected a tender involving the use of a new product called Geo Textile Membrane to permanently solve the problem of sea erosion.

Revealing further details at a press meet held at the office of the district Congress on Aug 8 Monday, Mr. Shetty said that ADB Consultants, which proposed to use Geo Textile Membrane, had sanctioned funds to the state government for the development of the coastal district. He added that the technology has been successfully used along the Kerala coast.

However, Palemar has written to the government stating that he is not pleased with the ADB project, which he considers to be a “conflict of interest.” Expressing his displeasure of Palemar’s conduct, he said that the minister ought to think about the natural resources, which are getting depleted because of sea erosion. He also stated that delay in the implementation of the ADB project will put the life and property of the local people at further risk.

Speaking on the Managala Corniche project, he said that the road is in a pathetic condition, but ministers can do nothing, but discuss the issue at meetings. Besides, Krishna Palemar has purchased land near Mangala Corniche and has modified the original proposed plan for his convenience. Although the UD has rejected the plan thrice, Palemar has considered it approved, as a result of which the proposed ring shape is no longer in a ring shape.

Flaying Palemar and accusing him of using his power to make more money, Mr. Shetty also expressed fears that Dharmaraj, who has been contracted to construct Mangala Corniche, will create problems for DK. He urged that Mangala Corniche should be constructed as per the original plan.

He also remarked that it is shocking that Palemar’s name does not appear in the Lokayukta’s report, adding that the matter must be taken up with the governor.

MLA U. T. Khader, former mayors Shashidhar Hegde and Ashraf, Nazeer, Nagendra Kumar, Harinath, Lancelot Pinto, and others were also present.
