Former Lokayukta criticizes MLAs going to foreign countries

Udupi, Sep 9, 2012: Flaying MLAs who go on foreign trips to learn about dealing with drought situations, Justice Santhosh Hegde, former Lokayukta, said that these ministers are just giving excuses to go on a vacation to foreign countries. 

Commenting especially on MLAs’ visits to countries such as Brazil and Argentina, he said that he had never heard of droughts in these demands, demanding to know how the ministers will learn about handling droughts in these countries. 

Stating that he was once a supporter of Team Anna against corruption, he said that he does not like the idea of creating a political party. He said that he will fight corruption his own way, either with or without joining other organizations. 

He also welcomed the Supreme Court ruling for a CBI probe into illegal iron ore extraction and transportation, voicing his opinion that one can expect better results only an institution outside Karnataka takes up the investigation as many influential people in the state are involved in the scam.
