Former IG to return honorary doctorate conferred on him by Mangalore University

Mangalore, October 1, 2011: Ajay Kumar Singh, the former DG and IG, is to return the honorary doctorate conferred on him by the Mangalore University, following a remark made by Governor H. R. Bharadwaj.

Bharadwaj had sarcastically stated that Mr. Singh got the doctorate after retirement.

Mr. Singh informed TOI reporters that he will return the doctorate, adding that he hadn’t requested the honorary doctorate and was repeatedly asked to agree to it by the VC of the Mangalore University and some members of its Syndicate. He said that he had agreed only after two months, adding that he will return the doctorate because of all the comments made about it.

Allegedly, the governor wrote to the state government requesting the promotion of his ADC KCV Mane to the rank of IPS, but Mr. Singh and N. Achuta Rao, the present DG and IG, had written back stating that certain rules do not permit the promotion of Mane.
