Kollur, Apr 10, 2016: News reports indicate, District police on Apr 9, Saturday arrested a former Executive Officer (EO) of the Sri Mookambika Temple in a case related to the siphoning off gold ornaments, donated by the devotees to the temple. K. Annamalai, Superintendent of Police, is reported to have said, L.S. Maruti was arrested near Kollur. The accused was the Executive Officer of the temple from July, 2012, to August, 2015.Instead of keeping the gold in safe custody in the treasury of the temple himself and depositing it in the bank, he used to give it to the clerk at the temple B. Shivaram for safekeeping. However, Maruthi used to sign the temple ledger stating that the gold was in his possession.
Now 413 grams of gold shown to be in possession of Maruti in the ledger was missing. Maruti had been arrested under Section 409 and Section 34 of the IPC.
A case had been registered at the Kollur police station, SP Annamalai has stated.
