Mangalore, Feb 28: The police have so far arrested 5 people accused of being involved in murdering Kabir, an associate of Madoor Isubu. They have now launched a manhunt for another accused.
Four of the arrested are from Suratkal and the fifth is from Thokkottu. The police are now trying to arrest their absconding accomplice on the basis of information revealed by the arrested upon interrogation. The accused had not fled the district after committing the murder.
Police sources have revealed that Kabir was murdered as an act of revenge for the murder of Sukhanand Shetty. Reportedly, influential people with political and industrial backgrounds had conspired to eliminate Kabir. The police are now investigating the involvement of these influential people in the murder.
When Gopal Hosur was the inspector general of police (western range), he had warned all the communal elements of the district, owing to which they had lying low for sometime. Currently, the police have beefed up security all over the district to discourage any more murders in retaliation to Kabir’s murder.
The Scorpio vehicle used to murder Kabir has given rise to a number of questions. Police investigations have revealed that this vehicle was seen in Gurpur recently and belongs to a resident of Belthangady. Complications have arisen with the revelation that the vehicle was in the possession of the bodyguard of a certain politician at the time of the murder. The police are now considering handing over the investigation of this angle of the case to the Belthangady police. So far, it is not clear if the vehicle was hired or stolen.
