Farmers take active part in Krishi Utsav at Parkala

Udupi, Feb 3, 2013: It is regretful note the government apathy towards the welfare of the farm sector as well as those depending  on agriculture, said KM Udupa, Managing Trustee of Bharatiya Vikas Trust, Manipal.


He was speaking after inaugurating a Krishi Utsav  organised at the Parkala High School grounds  on February 2, Saturday under the aegis of the  Udupi unit of  Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), Krishi Utsav organization, Lions Club International 317   and Rotary Parkala.

Continuing, Udupa said it is not enough if our delegation visits China and studies its  farming methods,  there is a need to  encourage similar methods even in India, he said. If China produced 500 million tonnes of food grains annually, in India it was just 150 million tonnes, he said.


He said  there is a need to include agriculture related topics in the school syllabus at the high school level itself in order to develop an interest in farming in the younger generation.


Kudi Srinivas Bhat, President of the Krishi Utsav Organizing Committee, presided over the function. ZP Chief Upendra Nayak, Lions Governor K Madhusudan Hegde, TP President Gowri Poojari, Pratapchandra Shetty, MLC and others were present on the occasion. Progressive farmers were felicitated.


There were around 90 stalls featuring various aspects relating to farming. The festival began with ‘Go Puja’ and   the rituals of a house warming ceremony.


There was an exhibition cum sale of farming implements, Ayurvedic homemade medicines, solar panels, homemade pesticides, tiller grass cutters, vegetable seeds, books and CDs on farming,
