According to the complainants, the train reached Suratkal on Friday evening and the family stood near the door of the compartment with their luggage. A group of four people came near them and picked a fight with them for standing near the door. The complainants stated that the fight was just to divert their attention when they stole valuables from their trolley bag.

Although the thieves left the bag, they got away with the ornaments and the family came to know that they had been robbed only when they got off the train at Mangalore.

The complainants also stated that there was no security guard and even the ticket collector did not come to their rescue.

Next day, Uday Shetty of Mangaladevi had a similar experience. He was returning to Mangalore when someone used the same method to rob him of gold jewelry worth Rs. 3 lakh.
