Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 25, 2012 : Vaijayanthi Kashi, chairperson of Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Academy, is silent about the delay in conducting exams for its music and dance students. Interacting with dance and music artistes on Sunday, she said that exams will be conducted although she refused to state exactly when the examinations will be held and who will be coordinating them.

She said that, according to an agreement at the government level, the Secondary Education Board has given the task of conducting the exams to Gangubai Hanagal Music University, but the university has not made any preparations to conduct these exams for more than 10,000 students. Stating that the Secondary Education Board might conduct the exams this year too, she said that a decision regarding the same will be taken soon.

In response to a query regarding the functioning of the academy, she said that she could hardly do any work because the government appointed members to the academy nearly a year after she took over as the chairperson.

She further said that the academy will organize a music and dance festival in Mysore in November and has plans to organize music and dance workshops in Navodaya schools.

Several senior artists from the twin districts and from Kasargod, who had taken part in the interaction, voiced their grievances and urged the chairperson to solve the issues.

Sheela Diwakar, senior music teacher, requested the chairperson to make arrange accommodation for women judges who attend dance and music exams. She also suggested that artistes from North India must also be invited to evaluate students.

Sumangala Ratnakar, senior dance teacher, suggested that exams must be conducted only in schools having the required facilities and that junior artistes must not be allowed to judge Vidwath exam candidates.
