Engineering student dies of drowning at Jomlu Teertha

The deceased is Gladson D’Silva (20), son of Gilbert D’Silva of Karkada. He was a third year engineering student at Canara College in Mangalore.

Gladson, along with four friends, went to Jomlu Teertha for a swim. The friends decided to sit on the banks of the river and have some snacks they had brought with them, but Gladson decided to go swimming. When his friends noticed that he was in difficulties, they threw a wooden log into the river, but could not rescue him.

Gladson’s father is a poor daily wage worker who had struggled to educate his children. Gladson got an engineering seat through merit.

With Gladson’s death, the number of people who have died at Jomlu Teertha has gone up to over 10. Local people say that the place has become the favorite of anti social elements.

The Hebri police have registered a case.
