Bantwal, Nov 26, 2013 : Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has said that an apolitical movement would be launched by taking various organizations into confidence to mount pressure on the government to fulfill the longstanding demand of the coastal belt for a separate railway division for Mangalore.
He was speaking to reporters after participating in a railway works progress review meeting at Circuit House in the city on November 25, Monday. The MP said most of the railway related problems of the region will be solved once a separate railway division was formed.
He said he had already met Union Railway Minister on the issue. The MP also informed that various action committees in undivided DK district will be brought together on a single platform for the purpose. Co-operation of all parties will also be sought in this direction, he said.
On the proposed railway under pass at Bajal, the MP said the project was likely to be cancelled owing to technical reasons. Instead the railway department was keen on taking up an over bridge work here, he said.
Piyush Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager of Palghat Division who also spoke, said cons ruction of an under pass would be difficult at Padil where more than one railway track passes through. Underpass can be constructed at places where there is a single track, he said and assured to take up the issue at the railway meeting to be held at Chennai on November 29. The MP directed that two MCC engineers attended the meeting.
MCC engineer Rajashekhar informed that the MCC was undertaking a survey through a private firm on the proposal to have either an over bridge or an under pass at Jeppu Mahakalipadpui and Jeppu Kudupady.
Officials of various departments attended the meeting.
