EVM/Polling information remain intact for minimum six months

Mangalore, May 20, 2014: In the joy of celebrations perhaps no one will have noticed that 1,766 electronic voting machines (EVMs) from the counting center at Bajpe, after declaration of the results; was securely transported to a safe room at the Mangalore Tahsildar’s office, opposite the Town Hall, which is still under  construction. In safe rooms lockd and sealed,  well guarded by city police.

the EVMs will  electronically hold safe in its memory each button that was pressed by a voter. This will be kept intact until the EVMs are called for to be put to use in a poll. It is statutory law that  a bonafide demand can be made by any authorised person to get the details it holds for six months from the date results were declared.  

B.K. Kusumadhara, Deputy Director, Land Records and election officer, is in-charge of the EVMs. He explained, “The Election Commission has directed to preserve and guard the machines for next six months. The machines are locked and sealed, and will not be accessible until further orders” A court or the EC has the power to order recount or verifications within a time frame of six months. Later necessary  orders will be given by the authority. The whole process is sacred, precise and systematic in our great democracy.
