Belthangady, Nov 3, 2013: Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala has in a letter addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has demanded a CBI probe into the Sowjanya rape and murder case.
In the letter which has also been released to the media, Dr Heggade reiterated the need to hand over the case to the CBI as the local citizens were not satisfied with the report submitted by the CID recently.
While extending Diwali wishes to the Chief Minister, Dr Heggade said just as other citizens who want a CBI probe, even he feels the need to entrust the investigation into the case to the CBI.
It may be mentioned here that protests demanding CBI probe into the case is continuing in various parts of the district, In fact the Sowjanya case hit headlines just a year after the incident when Hindu leader Mahesh Shetty Timarody made a direct allegation mentioning the name of four youth including Dr Heggade’s nephew Nischal Jain as accused in the case.
The state government until now has maintained that it will decide on a CBI probe after going through the CID report. The CID in its report has cleared the Heggade family of the allegations.
