Dr. Hans Peter Durr to deliver 3 lectures in Mangalore

Mangalore, Mar 6, 2012: Dr. B. M. Hegde told reporters at a press conference held at Press Club on March 6 Monday that Dr. Hans Peter Durr, the former executive director of Max Planc Institute in Germany, will deliver 3 lectures in DK from March 11 to March 13. 

He said that Dr. Durr, a specialist in quantum and nuclear physics, won the Alternative Nobel Prize (Right Livelihood Award) in 1987 for founding the Global Challenges Network, an initiative for world peace to counter the Star Wars Program and achieve social justice and peace. Dr. Durr also holds an honorary doctorate in philosophy. 

Dr. Hegde said that this is Dr. Durrs first visit to DK. 

Further, Dr. Hegde said that Dr. Durr’s lecturers are interesting because of his ability to blend philosophy with physics and also due to the fact that he has found a striking similarity between modern views of matter and those of ancient Indian philosophers. 

Revealing the schedule, he said that Dr. Durr will speak on March 11 at Shobhavan in the premises of Alva’s Education Foundation at 5:00 p.m. On March 12, he will deliver a lecture at NITK at 11:00 a.m. and on March 13, he will speak on the topic New World View of Physics in the auditorium of the Corporation Bank at 5:00 p.m. 

Each lecture will be followed by a one-hour interactive session, said Dr. Hegde.
