Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Jayanthi observed in Udupi

Udupi, May 1, 2012 : Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Jayanthi was observed in Narayana Guru Auditorium in Bannaje on April 30 Monday jointly by the District Dalit Sangarsha Samithi (DSS) and the District SC/ST Employees Federation.

The rally of cultural troupes, which commenced at noon, was inaugurated by SP Dr. Boralingaiah. It commenced at Town Hall and passed through Jodukatte, Taluk Office, Hotel Kidiyoor, and Shiribeedu before arriving at Narayana Guru Auditorium.

The stage program was inaugurated by A. Narayanaswamy, the state minister for social welfare and prisons. In his address, he said that the state government is funding private schools for the backward classes. Further, he said that the government has earmarked Rs. 4 crore for development of infrastructure in each legislative assembly constituency. He also said that Rs. 10 crore has been earmarked for the development of Morarji Desai School and Navodaya School.

Hoovappa Master, the chief convener of the district DSS, presided over the event.

MLA Raghupathi Bhat garlanded the portrait of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Pramod Madhwaraj, the entrepreneur, distributed scholarships among the students. The chief guest was DC Dr. M. T. Reju.

Among the dignitaries present were Murugesh, Dr. Vasudev Belle, and Jayakar Suvarna.
