Mangalore, Aug 26, 2012: Dakshina Kannada received heavy rainfall throughout last week and especially on the morning of August 26, Sunday, creating a lot of inconvenience for people. 


Yekkur experienced flash floods, with water gushing into shops and houses and damaging property. Since several roads were submerged, transport and communication became very difficult.

Water gushed into around 15 houses along the border of Jeppinamogaru and Kankanady. Flash floods were observed in places such as Pandeshwar and Kottara too. Mulky recorded the maximum rainfall of 199.5mm in the state during a 24-hour period till 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. 


The district administration arranged boats to help people move along the roads. According to the MCC commission, people had built houses with weak foundation, owing to which they collapsed in the heavy rain. The civic body has constructed temporary drains to facilitate free flow of water.
