District court denies bail to 3 more accused in home stay attack

Mangalore, Sep 1, 2012 : The first additional district and sessions court has denied bail to three more accused in the home stay attack case.

 

aarest 1Taranath Alva, Sandeep Shetty, and Venugopal, all accused of trespassing on private property and assaulting young people at Morning Mist Home Stay in Padil on the evening of July 28 have been denied bail.

On August 28, Tuesday, the court had denied bail to 17 people accused in the same case.

Some organizations had claimed that the Taranath, Sandeep, and Venugopal are innocent because they were just watching and had not assaulted anybody, but Judge G. D. Narasimha Murthy refused to accept this argument. A total of 20 people accused in this case have been denied bail.

So far, the police have arrested 24 people in connection with the home stay attack and are on the verge of arresting three more.

T. R. Jagannath, assistant commissioner of police for Mangalore South Subdivision, is in charge of this case.

Meanwhile, Vasudev Rao, a city-based lawyer, has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Karnataka High Court and the case will be heard soon.
