District administration to impose complete ban on plastic carry bags

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, July 21, 2012: District-in-charge Minister C. T. Ravi said that plastic carry bags, sheets, and cups and plates of all thickness will be banned in Dakshina Kannada.

He said that the decision to ban all varieties of plastic carry bags of any thickness has been taken because the district has no equipment to determine the thickness of plastic. He added that he has already directed DC N. S. Channappa Gowda to issue a circular regarding the ban.

He said that the government is ready to deal with plastic manufactures who might go to court opposing the ban.

When Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda was the DC of Chikmagalur, a complete ban on use of plastic carry bags was imposed in Chikmagalur.

Chairing a meeting of people’s representatives and government officers, Mr. Ravi said that all government departments must work for the development of the district. He also announced that he will hold a progress review meeting on Aug 14 and urged officers to get ready with their progress reports.

People’s representatives complained that the projects taken up by Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) were hardly progressing. They demanded that the contract must be cancelled and fresh tenders must be invited. The district-in-charge minister said that he will enquire about the issue.
