District Congress observes Rajiv Gandhi’s 68th birth anniversary

Mangalore, Aug 20, 2012: The DK District Congress Committee (DKDCC) observed the 68th birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, India’s sixth prime minister, in the office of the district Congress on August 20, 2012. 


In his address, B. Ramanath  Rai, MLA of Bantwal and president of the DKDCC, said that Indians are indebted to Rajiv Gandhi for his extraordinary contributions to the country’s progress, especially in the fields of technology and communication.

The DKDCC also observed the 97th birth anniversary of Devaraj Urs, former chief minister of Karnataka. 


Sadashiva Ullal, Congress spokesperson, presented the Congress Party flag to Dharmendra Kumar, new president of the Block Congress. In his address, Mr. Kumar said that Congress leaders encouraged him to work for the party and added that the party, under the leadership of Ramanath Rai, is doing good work. 


Stating that the Congress lost the recent elections by a small margin, he said that the party must gain the confidence of the people in the upcoming elections and come to power. 


Mayor Gulzar Banu, Moideen Bawa, Vijaykumar Shetty, former MLA, MLA U. T. Khader, Suresh Ballal, and many other Congress leaders and workers were present.
