Mangalore, March 9, 2012: Bijoy, the general manager (marketing) for Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd., told reporters at a press meet held at Hotel Gold Finch today that the Dirt Track National Championship sponsored by his company will be held in the city on March 17 – 18.

He said that the event will be organized by the Mumbai-based Sports Craft in association with Mangalore Motor Sports Association and that it will be the first of a series of five rounds of the FMSCI Championship and will be held on the grounds of Fisheries College.

The Dirt Track Racing is similar to the F1 race on motorcycle, with participants starting at the same time, riding over uneven surfaces, slushy areas, and serpentine tracks in a bid to reach the finish line first. Each championship round comprises 6 class, with riders fighting for the honor as well as the prize of Rs. 1,75,000 and trophies. The champions, those who collect the largest number of points over the five rounds, will win a prize of Rs. 4,50,000 and trophies.

 

 

Latest dirt racing bikes from Yamaha, Honda, and TVS will also be exhibited on this occasion.

Riders from all over the country will participate in this event. TVS riders R. Nataraj and Pramod Joshua who did very well last season in Indian Expert Group A’s glamour class will compete against Siddhanth Nayak, Harit Noak, Alen Sequeira, Adnan Ahmed, Javed Shaikh, Vineeth Kurup, Joaquin D’Silva, Shamim Khan, and Ganesh Lokhande.


The Private Group B class will be very competitive with riders such as Jagjit Singh, Kshitji Shukla, Kannan Naidu, Kush Rao, Mansingh Thakur, Ismail Shaik, Firoz Khan, Akash Satpute, Suhail Ahmed, and Vishwas S. D.


Abhijit Shetty and Yuva Kumar of TVS Team will participate in the Novice Class against Anish Nair, Adithya Thakkar, Wasim Shaikh, Irfan Killedar, and others.


Since this racing event became very popular over the last two year, Gulf Oil decided to hold another event of its kind to give riders an opportunity to showcase their riding talent.


Around 95 riders have already registered with Sports Craft. The organizers will accept a maximum of 25 entries for each class. This year, separate events will be held for riders from Karnataka and Mangalore. The last date to submit entries is March 13.
