Dharmasthala : 180 couples enter into wedlock at mass marriage ceremony

Beltangady, May 3, 2013  : A total of 180 couples entered into wedlock at the 42nd annual mass marriage ceremony held at Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala on May 2 in the presence of several dignitaries including Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala.Dr Heggade  distributed sarees to the brides and dhoti and shawls to the grooms.

 

 

 

 

Prior to the wedding ceremony, the couples went out in a procession from the  Dharmasthala Temple to the Amritavarshini  Hall. The Muhurat was fixed at  6.48 pm and the grooms tied the mangalasutra to their brides at the most auspicious moment amid the chanting of the holy verses.

Kannada actor Devaraj who was present as a chief guest, said he was immensely pleased to take part in the ceremony. He blessed the couple and urged them to lead an ideal life.

H Billappa, advocate from, Bangalore,  was also present as a chief guest.

 Dr Veerendra Heggade in his address said the mass marriage ceremony was being organised in Dharmasthala since 1972 and that he was  pleased to note that it had set a good example with many more organizations too taking up mass  marriage functions thereby helping the economically weaker sections.

He also said that wedding ceremonies should always be simple instead of resorting to extravagant spending.

The Kshetra  has spent Rs 9400 on each couple. A wedding lunch was also served to the relatives of the newlywed couples as well as a large gathering.
