Udupi, Dec 19, 2012 : The Made Snana ritual was held in front of the Subrahmanya Gudi at the Sri Krishna Mutt of Udupi on December 18, Tuesday, being Subrahmanya Shashti Day. Nearly 15 people offered this roll over ritual on left over food on plantain leaves.
The ritual began after about a hundred Brahmins had their food near the Subrahmanya Gudi. The devotees who received theertha prasada from Sri Vishwa Vallabha Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Sode Mutt, performed the ritual which is generally offered by those who have a harake.
It is believed that this is a nearly five century old practice in Udupi Krishna Mutt.
Similar rituals were also held in other Naga temples in Muchlakodu, Arithodu and Sagri Vasuki Subrahmanya Temple.
Though the Muchlakodu temple had earlier put up a sign board stating only Ede Snana was permitted, Made Snana was offered as usual owing to the recent Supreme Court ruling, which gave a stay to the High Court verdict on Made Snana.
