Ravi, minister for higher education and district-in-charge minister for DK, has instructed the DDPI to depute more teachers from Mangalore to government schools in Belthangady, which do not have the adequate number of teachers. The block education officer (BEO) for Belthangady said that 179 of the 1,537 sanctioned teachers’ posts in government primary and high schools are vacant. Although they tried deputing 30 teachers from other schools to the schools in Belthangady, it did not work out as the schools from which the teachers were deputed protested against the move. He complained that schools object to deputing as well as not deputing teachers.

Encroachment

The minister also said that strict action must be taken against those who encroach on government land, without taking into consideration their social and financial status. He said that the revenue department should reclaim the land and book a criminal case against the offenders.

Medical Camps

Responding to complaints that the government has failed to identify disabled people in Endosulphan-affected areas for the distribution of pension, the minister instructed the health officer to conduct a medical camp in this area to identify disabled people and give them a disability certificate so that they can claim the pension. The minister added that pensions should be given even to those who are from APL families.

He also instructed the tahsildar to identify land in Dharmasthala for the construction of a new community health centre.

Displaced Families

The minister also said that a special meeting will be held to discuss the fate of those displaced from Kudremukh Reserve Forest.
