Udupi, Sep 5, 2013 : Former Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat has urged Union Minister or Highways Oscar Fernandes to ensure steps to construct flyovers at Brahmavar and Karavali junctions instead of an underpass.
Speaking to reporters at the BJP office here on September 4, Wednesday, Bhat said the underpass will serve no purpose and urged Oscar to take steps to see that the proposals were dropped and instead flyovers were constructed.
He also pointed out that the NHAI which had initially proposed flyovers at Udupi, Padubidri, Brahmavar and Kundapur later dropped the idea and decided to have underpass which, he said would create more problems.
Bhat further stated that the repeated appeals made to Oscar as well as Udupi MP Jayaprakash Hegde with regard to the demand for flyover has not been responded positively. He also warned of a National Highway bundh agitation on September 15 if the two failed to respond by them.
Continuing, the former MLA was critical of the style of functioning of Union Minister Oscar Fernandes and added his contribution to his home constituency was nothing when compared to the contributions of former minister late VS Acharya.
Vilas Nayak, BJP Yuva Morcha President said there would be a bike rally on September 7 seeking to expedite the NH 66 works.
Several BJP leaders were present on the occasion.
