Deceased Naxal yet to be identified – IGP Prathap Reddy

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Sep 7, 2012 : Pratap Reddy, IGP (western range), told reporters that the identity of the Naxal, who was killed in an exchange of fire between a group of Naxals and the ANF in the forest area of Subrahmanya, is not yet known.

igp 1Mr. Reddy had visited the Government Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore, where the body is being kept.

He also told reporters that they have notified the police in Tamil Nadu and Kerala so that they can help identify the deceased. Post mortem is yet to be done, he added.

He said that the body was brought to Wenlock Hospital late at night, adding that a post mortem will be done after the inquest. The police are required to work according to the norms of the National Human Rights Commission, he said.

In response to a query from reporters, Mr. Reddy said that the ANF and the police are working in perfect coordination, adding that the ANF has the equipment required to operate in the deep forests while the police do not have that equipment. The police, therefore, are a support force for the ANF.

The IGP also said that the ANF will continue combing all Naxal infested zones, and so far, their attempts to bust Naxal camps and curb Naxal activites have been very successful, partly because of public support. People are growing more insecure about Naxals, he added.
