Damaged water pipe leads to artificial flooding in Bendoorwell

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, March  26, 2012 : A damaged water pipe led to artificial flooding in Bendoorwell and around 15 shops have been submerged. The goods displayed in the shops are damaged.

The underground pipeline running through Kankanady and Bendoorwell burst and water flooded onto the road and into the shops. The local people tried diverting the flood into the storm water drains. Although the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) officials rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control, they were unable to do so because the water pump refused to function.

The damaged pipeline supplies water to Mulihithlu, Mangaladevi, Jeppinamogaru, Nandigudde, and other places. These places will not get any water till the pipeline is repaired. The pipeline was laid nearly 40 years back and is made of cast iron.

The local people are currently cursing the MCC for its shoddy work. They have also demanded that the old pipeline under the road should be replaced.
