Bangalore, Sep 11, 2013 : Dakshina Kannada district will soon have a special court to try cases of crime against women.
The district is one among the ten districts that have been chosen to have special courts. It may be recalled here that the state government had mooted setting up of special courts after the gang rape of a medical student of Manipal University.
Informing this, State Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs TB Jayachandra said apart from DK district, Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Gulbarga, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysore and Ramanagaram districts too will have special courts.
The Minister said each court will have 37 staff including a district judge. He further added that the government was of the strong view that crime against women can be checked if there is speedy disposal of cases and if there is strict enforcement of law.
The government has also mooted the appointment of a gazette officer to monitor if women are portrayed indecently in advertisements and films.
The Minister also assured to write to Home Minister K J George and Minister of State for Women and Child Development Umashree for strict enforcement of the law.
