Mangalore, May 6, 2013 : Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta has informed that Dakshina Kannada district recorded a total voter turnout of 74.91 per cent with a total number of 11,18,025 voters exercising their franchise in the 8 assembly constituencies of the district during the May 5 elections.
Even the postal ballots have been counted while giving the polling percentage, the DC said.
The highest voting percentage was 95.23 recorded at Ranipura polling station (38A) in Mangalore constituency, while the lowest was 41.04 in Bala(155) in Moodbidri constituency.
Speaking to reporters here on May 6, Monday, the DC said there has been a 1.83 per cent increase in voter turnout this time when compared to the 2008 Assembly elections when a polling percentage of 73.08 was registered.
Stating that the election was a smooth and peaceful affair, the DC informed that nine Electronic Voting Machines had to be replaced due to technical snag. However, this had not affected polling, he said.
The DC said a total of 74.59 per cent of men voters and 74.38 per cent women voters had exercised their franchise. A total number of 81 voters exercised the NOTA (None of the Above) vote option in the district.
