All the protestors were handcuffed as a mark of protest to the arrest of journalist Naveen Soorinje and also to symbolize that they were ready to go behind bars for the cause of upholding human rights.

Speaking on the occasion, DYFI District President Muneer Katipalla accused the state government of violating human rights. He alleged that the government which was controlled by the RSS had never hesitated to punish those who opposed it.

On the Soorinje arrest case, he said the young and upright journalist was arrested just because he exposed the misdeeds of the government. He said the DYFI and SFI fully backed Naveen and will continue their fight until he was released.

PB D’Sa, PUCL President, Suresh Bhat Bakrabail of Komu Sauharda Vedike, eminent writer Saara Aboobakker and others participated in the protest.
