DVS, wife appear before Lokayukta court ; file bail plea

Bangalore/ Mangalore Dec 15, 2012 : Former chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda and his wife Datty who appeared before the Lokayukta court on December 14, Friday in connection with a petition filed against them regarding an illegal construction on government land, also filed bail petitions before the court. The hearing into the same has been posted to December 27.
Another accused in the case Anil too appeared before the court. The three have also been accused of getting sites under discretionary quota despite having lands.
The High Court, earlier on December 12 had dismissed the petitions filed by Gowda and his wife seeking stay on the proceedings of the Lokayukta court and also refused to grant exemption from personal appearance. The Lokayukta court had directed them to appear before Court on October 12.
The three have been booked under IPC sections 468,471,420 and 13(1)(c), 13(1)(d) read with section 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act. The complainant Nagalakshmi had alleged that Datty had purchased 7.5 guntas of "gomala" land in Bangalore North in 2008 without proper documents and had also illegally constructed a two-floor building without getting the land converted for non-agricultural purposes.
