DVS accused of encroaching on public property

Mangalore, March 14, 2012: Vijay Kumar Shetty, the former MLA and Congressman, has accused Chief Minister D. V. Sadananda Gowda of using part of a public road while building a commercial complex.

Addressing reporters at a press conference held in Kottara Chowki in Mangalore on Wednesday, Mr. Shetty, who was supported by a few local people, alleged that DVS has constructed a commercial complex on land used as a road by the people of the locality. Stating that the road is referred to as a public road in the CDP’s proposed plan, he said that the CDP has done nothing about it. He challenged an impartial engineer to conduct a survey and declare if their allegations are untrue.

 

He said that they will lodge a complaint with the Lokayukta after collecting some more relevant documents.

Former mayor Ajit Kumar said that the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has been urging people to get rid of cement window shades that jut out of their limits, but the MCC has done nothing about DVS’s commercial structure, which clearly encroaches on public property. Although the MCC licensed the project, it makes no mention of any violation in its completion certificate, he alleged.

Mr. Shetty, however, refused to comment on Ms. Margaret Alva’s refusal to give land for road-widening projects in Balmatta, on grounds that he doesn’t want to weaken his present case by talking about Ms. Alva.
