Mangalore, Mar 11, 2012: The DK Working Journalists’ Union (DKWJU) and Press Club organized Press Club Day in Urwa Church Hall on March 10.
DKWJU President Harish Rai delivered the welcome address, after which M. N. Rajendra Kumar, the president of the South Canara Central Cooperative Bank, inaugurated the event.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Kumar spoke of the challenges of a journalist’s life and lauded those journalists who have devoted their lives to the media. He also voiced his opinion that journalists usually hail from poor families and are highly respected in society. He concluded by urging journalists to continue being committed to their work and making the country free of corruption.
Speaking on the occasion, MCC Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar recalled the recent attack on journalists in Bangalore and urged the media that, even in such circumstances, they must avoid being prejudiced and give comprehensive news.
Mr. Rajendra Kumar and Dr. Harish Kumar felicitated reporters and photojournalists who had done a great job during the past many years.
