DK district fully ignored in state budget: Ivan

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Feb9, 2013: KPCC Secretary Ivan D’Souza has said that the state government has offended the people of Dakshina Kannada district by not announcing any scheme for the district, in its 2013 budget.

Ivan DsouzaAddressing press persons at the Congress office in Mangalore on February 9, Saturday, he said the state budget has been utterly disappointing for the people of the district who had high expectations.  He also alleged that none of the 49 point suggestions recommended by MLA and Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat has been taken into consideration by the government in the budget. “Bhat must protest against this and tender his resignation,” Ivan demanded.

He further alleged that the Government has allocated Rs 415 crore for the minorities welfare in the budget, just to appease them while the fact is that not even 20 per cent of the Rs 235 crore allocated for minorities  in the previous budget has reached the beneficiaries. He further charged the government of failure to implement in DK district any of the proposals put forth in the previous budget.

Ivan further expressed his resentment over the non-allocation of funds for the development of the Government Wenlock and Ladygoschen Hospitals in Mangalore. Even the much hyped mono rail project  finds no mention, he said.

The unemployment allowance and the Rs 2 per kg rice announced in the budget   were just a ploy to cheat the people of the state at a time when the state  government term is ending, he alleged. Former mayor Ashraf, TK Sudhir and other Congress leaders were present.
