In his inaugural speech he said that “it is duty of every student to create awareness about HIV among rural people. The students union must organize Aids awareness campaign in rural area off and on to alert the illiterate folk to make the region free from the killer disease.


He said that the public understanding of how HIV is prevented and treated still remains mixed and basic awareness about the disease and its impact is lacking, particularly among women and young people. “However the country still has a window of opportunity as current estimates, using various latest prevalence estimation models, indicate that HIV prevalence among the general adult population is still below one per cent,” he added.


The HIV/AIDS awareness week was organised by Department of Health and Family Welfare, School of Social Work Roshni Nialaya.


Dr Jacinta D’Souza, Principal of Roshni Nilaya, Dr Kishor, DAPCU officer, Dr Vineetha K , Asha, Monitor ICTC were the others present on the occasion. He Aids Awareness week will conclude on December 8, 2010.


With an aim to spread awareness about the HIV/Aids, various organisations in the city are observing the World Aids Day today. Many camps and rallies will help to spread awareness about the syndrome among the general public. December 1st was declared the World Aids Day on 1988 by the World Health Organisation. World Aids Day marks the spread of awareness of the most wide spread disease across the world. On this day many campaigns and marches are held to combat the disease.
