Mangalore, April 27, 2012  : The Shree Gopalakrishna Temple at Shaktinagar organized a cultural event on its premises on April 25 Wednesday as part of the Koti Namarchane held as part of its 5th anniversary celebrations.

The president of the Tulu Sahitya Academy spoke on the occasion and listed out the various benefits of tulsi. Speaking about the differences in confirming death in the past and in the present, he said that a doctor is called in now to confirm death, but in the past tulsi water was poured on the mouth of the person to find out whether he was dead or alive.

He also expressed his appreciation of businessman K. C. Naik for constructing the Shree Gopalakrishna Temple.

M. Jayadeva, a member of the RSS, spoke on the occasion and said that events such as these help in establishing humane values in society.

The Natyaniketan troupe of Kotekar, under the direction of Ullal Mohan Kumar, presented a Tulu dance drama called Yeluver Deyyar.

Yerya Laxminarayan Alva, the chancellor of the Indian Cultural Foundation, spoke on the significance of Tulu in the lives of the local people.

Harish Sherigar, the entrepreneur; B. Nagaraj Shetty, the chairman of the Coastal Development Authority (CDA); Vinay Kumar Sorake, the former MP; Krishna Prasad Adyanthaya, a member of the Kollur Mookambika Temple Committee; and many others were also present.
