Mangalore, Apr 4, 2012: The Second Additional and Sessions Court of Mangalore has passed a sentence of life imprisonment until his last breath on Dinesh Gowda (39), who was found guilty of sexually assaulting and murdering a 28-year-old Dalit woman called Sarojini on Oct 3, 2010.

The hearing on the case was completed on March 31 Saturday and Judge G. D. Narasimha Murthy delivered the verdict on April 3 Tuesday.

Sarojini, who left Kaikamba to go shopping for clothes on Oct 3, 2010, went missing. Her body was later found in a semi-nude condition near an unused pump shed at Ordoor. She had been killed by someone who crushed her head with a stone.

Valentine D’Souza, the then circle inspector of Panambur, took over the investigation of this case and solved it in just 4 days.

Dinesh Gowda was one of the employees in the rubber estate where Sarojini was also employed. Later Sarojini left the rubber estate for a cashew company. Sources revealed during police interrogation that Dinesh Gowda had made several unsuccessful attempts to get sexual favors from Sarojini when she was working with him in the rubber farm.

Police investigation also revealed the fact that Dinesh Gowda forcibly took Sarojini near Ordoor and tried to rape her. When she resisted, he hit her head with a stone and killed her.

The police arrested Dinesh Gowda, who had been absconding since then, on Oct 7.
