Court extends police custody for suspected Naxal Vittal

Beltangady, March 15, 2012 : Vittal (23) of Manila – Kutlur, a student of Mangalore University, who was arrested for alleged involvement with Naxals, was produced before the court on March 14 Wednesday and the court has granted the police custody over him for 5 more days.


naxOn March 2, the police arrested Vittal for alleged involvement in Naxal activities. Bhaskar Rai, the circle inspector, produced him in court on Wednesday and requested 15 more days of police custody for Vittal, but the court has granted the police only 5 more days to complete their investigation.

Although Vittal’s mother Honnamma desired to speak to her son for a few minutes, she was not granted permission.

Meanwhile, the recording of all the arms and ammunitions that the Naxals had left behind in the forests was completed on Wednesday.

The Kerala and the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force (STF) will investigate possible Naxal links with the LTTE since books in Malayalam and Tamil were also found with the arms and ammunitions seized.

The STF of Tamil Nadu comprising 3 officers and 3 assistants is investigating Kolli while the STF of Kerala has already investigated the area and has returned.
