Congress romps home with victory in 7 constituencies in Dakshina Kannada

Mangalore, May 8, 2013: It’s almost a clean sweep for the Congress in the Assembly  elections in Dakshina Kannada. The Congress emerged victorious in seven constituencies while the BJP had to be satisfied with a win only in Sullia constituency.

In Mangalore South,  Congress candidate JR Lobo has broken the winning spree of four time MLA Yogish Bhat, by defeating the latter  by a margin of 11610 votes in the prestigious Mangalore South Assembly constituency. The victory of Lobo, a former bureaucrat and the defeat of Yogish Bhat has been a major setback to the BJP.The victory of Lobo in Mangalore South, a constituency where the party was longing for a win  over the past several years, has been a great morale booster for the Congress.Lobo secured 61433 votes while BJP’s Yogish Bhat could get 50355 votes.

 

In Mangalore North, BJP has suffered another major setback in the prestigious Mangalore North constituency. Here its two time MLA and former minister Krishna J Palemar has lost to Moidin Bava of Congress by a margin of 2420 votes. In fact Bava had lost the previous elections to Palemar by a margin of 16000 votes.

In Mangalore constituency UT Khader of the Congress has registered a great win  by a margin of 19000 votes against Chandrahas Ullal of BJP.

In Moodbidri Congress candidate Abhayachandra Jain has won by a margin of 4419 votes against Umanath Kotian of BJP. In  Puttur, Shakuntala Shetty of Congress has defeated Sanjeeva Matandoor of BJP by 4252 votes. In Bantwal Congress candidate Ramanatha Rai who is also the DCC Chief, has registered an emphatic win over Rajesh Naik of BJP by 10526 votes.

In Belthangady sitting MLA Vasanth Bangera has defeated Ranjan Gowda of BJP. Bangera bagged 66,596 votes as against 52278 votes polled by Ranjan Gowda.
