Congress protests against withdrawal of road widening project

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Mar 5, 2012: The district unit of the Congress party organized a protest in the premises of the Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) alleging that Krishna Palemar, the former district-in-charge minister, had tried to prevent road widening near Padavu.

According to the revised master plan, it was proposed that the road must be widened by 24m; but this project was withdrawn to assist Vikas Education Trust, said Vijaykumar Shetty, the former MLA. He also said that Palemar had sent an application to the MUDA to withdraw the proposed road widening plan and instead widen the road by only 12m.

Further, the MLA said that the road ought to be widened because it connects to the Mangalore Airport and alleged that Palemar had this project withdrawn for private purposes and not public welfare.

The Congress submitted a memorandum to the governor through the MCC commissioner demanding that the road widening project must not be withdrawn.

A number of Congress corporators along with Suresh Ballal, the chairman of the MUDA, were present.
