Congress organizes get-together to express gratitude to voters

Udupi, Mar 25, 2012: The Congress organized a get-together at Royal Gardens on March 25 Sunday to express their gratitude to voters and party workers responsible for the success of Jayaprakash Hegde in the Udupi – Chikmagalure Lok Sabha by polls. 

Congress leaders such as Jayaprakash Hegde; Oscar Fernandes, the Rajya Sabha MP; Siddaramaiah, the state opposition leader; R. V. Deshpande, the former KPCC president; K. H. Muniyappa, the union minister for railways; Dr. Veerappa Moily, the union minister for corporate affairs; Dr. Parameshwar, the KPCC president; along with D. K. Shivkumar, Pamod Madhwaraj, and C. M. Ibrahim were present.

Siddaramaiah said in his address that the Congress won because Udupi is a place of intelligent people. Attacking the BJP, he remarked that the party lacks all moral values and have done nothing but loot the state’s resources.  

Addressing the gathering, Moily said that this is a great victory for the Congress. Criticizing the BJP, he said that they believed they would win because they are in power, but the voters knew better than to vote for the BJP. Listing out the virtues of the Congress, he said that the party sees all religions as one and upholds a secular culture. He also declared that the victory of the Congress is the victory of the people. 

Referring to the BJP-led state government as a “curse” on the people, R. V. Deshpande said that this curse has been broken by the Congress victory. He urged party workers to serve the people selflessly. 

Speaking on the occasion, Jayaprakash Hegde thanked Sonia Gandhi, the president of the national Congress, and said that he considers it to be his duty to ensure that the pride and self-respect of his people is not hurt in any manner. He said that he will always remain approachable to the people.
