Later, addressing a party workers convention at Tokkottu, Opposition leader Siddaramaiah said there was a need to bring an end to the BJP rule and help the Congress rise to power to establish peace and harmony in the state. He charged the BJP government of looting the state treasury and even chose to blame JD(S) leader Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy for bringing the BJP to power. He also referred to the several attacks on churches and religious shrines of other faiths that took place after the BJP government came to power.

“Yeddyurappa brought shame to the entire state by becoming the first Chief Minister to land behind bars,”Siddaramaiah said and added both KJP of Yeddyurappa and BSR Congress of Sriramulu were two sides of the same coin.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Veerappa Moily called upon party men to derive inspiration from great leaders right from Mahatma Gandhi and Congress leaders like Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajeev Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M. Veerappa Moily alleged that the BJP had communalised society. He asked people to be wary of Janata Dal (Secular) as it might align with the BJP at any time after the Assembly elections as it did after withdrawing support to the Dharam Singh-led Congress-JD(S) coalition government.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah said that it was the duty of an elected government to create an atmosphere conducive for cordial living of people of all faiths as per the Constitution.

Senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojari who also spoke made it clear that he was not against saffron colour, but only against the BJP government. He also accused the BJP of not understanding the real value of saffron. Poojari by saying so was clearly hinting at the recent saffron row that rocked the district Congress.
Several Congress leaders including CM Ibrahim, DCC Chief Ramanatha Rai, Vinayakumar Sorake, former MP, Motamma, Muniappa, UT Khader and others were present on the occasion.
