Congress flays BJP at Janajagruthi Samavesha in Town Hall

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, July 7, 2012: The Dakshina Kannada Congress Committee (DKCC) organized Janajagruthi Samavesha at Town Hall on July 7, Saturday.

Siddaramaiah, opposition leader in the state legislative assembly, inaugurated the event and stated that the BJP came to power in Karnataka only because of chance and not because the people wanted them. Stating that joining hands with another party to get the majority is not a big achievement, he said that the Congress could have come to power by joining the JD(S), but did not do it because the JD (S) had earlier betrayed the Congress to give the post of CM to its chief Kumaraswamy.

Stating that the BJP has been corrupt right from their first day in power, he said that B. S. Yeddyurappa became a puppet in the hands of the Reddy brothers who spent their ill-gotten mining gains on getting publicity for the party. He demanded to know if there is any BJP leader who can boldly state that he is not corrupt.

Stating that the most shameless people in the country are BJP leaders, he said that BJP leaders are involved in the country’s worst scams such as denotification of land, illegal mining, food scam, and so on.

Criticizing Yeddyurappa for using the victory symbol even while entering and coming out of jail, he said that the 13 MLAs supporting Yeddyurapp have resigned only because they are involved in various scams. He also accused the BJP of not appointing the Lokayukta because it is scared that the Lokayukta will investigate the doings of its corrupt leaders.

Flaying Yeddyurappa, he said that Yeddyurappa has not kept even 50 percent of the promises he made to the people of Karnataka. He has failed to produce 10,000MW electricity and give away free electricity to farmers; instead, he can hardly produce even 1000MW of electricity. The BJP’s only achievement is cancellation of 30 lakh BJP cards and stopping free treatment for the poor in government hospitals.

Stating that he can prove that the government has not spent any money from the treasury for drought-affected taluks, he said that people need to make quick changes to preserve the state’s natural resources.

Speaking on the occasion, Congress leader V. R. Sudarshan said that the state’s development has been stunted because of the irresponsibility of the BJP government. The BJP has wrecked even the good reputation the state had, he said.

Many other Congress leaders such as S. R. Patil and B. Janardhan Reddy addressed the gathering. MLA B. Ramanath Rai presided and KPCC General Secretary Ivan D’Souza welcomed.

Several Congress leaders such as Mayor Gulzar Banu, Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLA U. T. Khader, MLA Abhaychandra Jain, P. V. Mohan, Mithun Rai, and Praveen Chandra Alva were present.
