Mangalore, Oct 31, 2012 : Delivering the protest address at a demonstration organized by the Congress against the BJP-led state government, B. Ramanath Rai, president of the DK District Congress, said that Kumaraswamy was responsible for bringing the BJP to power in the state. The Congress had organized this demonstration to demand proper accounts of the funds released by the centre to the state, in front of the DC’s office in Mangalore on Tuesday.

Although the Congress had initiated pension programs ever since the days of Devraj Urs, it had never taken credit for it, unlike the BJP, said Mr. Rai.
Further, he said that the district has received grants worth Rs. 200 crore from the central government, Rs. 52 crore under the Sarva Shikshana Abhiyaan, Rs. 15 crore under the NREG, as well as funds under several village welfare schemes. The centre has granted funds for several programs such as Bisioota, in spite of which the BJP-led state government is complaining that the centre is not sanctioning sufficient funds. He accused the BJP of misguiding the public and telling them lies that it is using its own funds for development projects.
Stating that he agrees with Mrs. Gandhi’s remarks that the BJP-led state government must provide accounts of the Rs. 80,000 crore granted to the state by the centre, Mr. Rai said that the BJP-led state government has oppressed and cheated minorities. Rehman Khan, the newly appointed union minority affairs minister, will soon visit DK and will give details regarding the funds released by the centre for minority welfare.
A large number of Congress leaders and workers took part in the protest.
