Mangalore, Jan16, 2013: KPCC President Dr G Parameshwar has informed that the Congress would be organizing a Padayatra from Ullal to Udupi very soon to promote communal harmony in undivided Dakshina Kannada district which has often witnessed incidents of atrocities on minority community.
Speaking to press persons at the District Congress Office here on January 16,Wednesday, he said the Congress has already organised two successful Padayatras to create an awareness on the Bellary mines scam and to enlighten the people of Krishna river basin area on the failure of the government to make good use of the Krishna river water.
Commenting on the Chief Minister’s statement that he would be presenting the state budget this year, Parameshwar said the government which has lost absolute majority has no moral right to present the budget. He further pressurized the chief minister to give an account of the expenditures made in accordance to the proposals put forth in the Rs one lakh crore budget presented by erstwhile Chief Minister.
Parameshwar was also highly critical of the opposition expressed by some writers and MLA Madhusudan to the proposal to set up the Tipu Sultan Muslim University in Mysore. He said this was a project which the state need to be proud of and added everyone need to support the naming of the university after a valiant freedom fighter and secular leader like Tipu Sultan.
When scribes drew the attention of the KPCC Chief towards the recent remarks made by a Congress leader in Mangalore asking Congressmen to wear Khadi and not saffron, Parameshwar said it was a rule in Congress to wear Khadi and added he would not comment on the colour aspect.
Several Congress leaders including DCC Chief Ramanatha Rai, former MP Vinaykumar Sorake, former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty, MLA UT Khader, Mahila Congress President Mamatha Shetty, Vijayanath Vittal Shetty and others were present.
